This thread is about stuff not to be found in the originally released TM. Either these are not included from the beginning for some reason or are newly created. Also I guess you get some better resolution images for some. Or provided due to requests.

Go here for the last released version.

  • Here are images that predate the Technical Manual and had not been included but are still accurate (no change). I had to convert some old format to be able to upload here.

  • Here are some images for the turbo lift system. About same time as the TM.

  • Here's a view of the space control area as well as the aft hangar control room. Zoom is on one of the three control rooms (e.g. CIC), don't remember which. :P

  • I just remembered. It's been a long time and this will probably happen often. I forgot to mention an important change to the old images. At the time the idea that the Akira is a carrier didn't show up yet. So I started designing it as an ordinary Federation ship.
By the time I wrote the TM I made the changes by having large access doors connecting the side bays to the main bay in the center of the ship. The observation rooms should still be there. The side bays occupy 2 decks while the middle bay occupies 2 decks.
The 3rd & 4th deck over the middle bay houses the space control area. There are more observation rooms on the side for the side bays where you see the catwalk & ladders.
    _bays-aft.png

There's a minor change here from then and now that's not visible. Notice the little lifts that go from the lower cargo bays to the upper one (the side cargo bays to the side of the side shuttle bays). These lift are place over round hatches that are visible on the underside of the Akira. By the time I wrote the TM the hatches also serve to drop antimatter containers for refueling shuttle crafts. The between deck space & between wall space has a dropdoor-guide to guide the antimatter containers stored between the walls.

    Bays-info.png

This early rendering has craft and things that are not quit Star Trek.
    flydeck-wip000.png

There is a central tower which houses the warpcore and fly crew/bay management rooms. It's removed for a better view of the aft section of the main bay.

  • Back to space control & shuttle bay control.
As to the details you see here I have always had them. I just didn't include these in the TM as they might be subjected to change as well as are overkill details. :P There's no better designed Akira out there even after all these years! 8-)

    Deck10-tower1.png

Deck 10 main bay floor 'tower':
This is an older design different from the TM in that it still has the utility core #7.
I outlined the tower red on floor level. The computer cores you see are on deck 8.
So they are looming over the bay floor. The fighter outline look weird because they represent different fighter designs as well as space requirement for movement purposes.
    #1 main turbolift shafts
    #2 workshops
#3 emergency lockers, accessible from all sides
    #4 different tool storages
    #5 Memory trunks
    #6 toilets, sonic/emergency showers
#8 main EPS shaft with warp core shaft on the right
#A quick rearm/unloading area; junction area; most dangerous place on the deck
#B aft heavy shuttle lift to bay below
#C fore heavy shuttle lift to bay below
#D heavy cargo lift going through most decks for various delivery/transport purposes

  • Lots more to come yet before I'm out of my old stuff and coming to some new ones.
If you haven't yet the project used a very old 3D program that could only handle about 1-2 million polygons. Anymore and it takes tens of minutes just for updating the screen, hence, I didn't bother with high level objects. It's all representative with reasonable level of details. Needless to say it's too time consuming to recreate everything anew. Also many newer modeler programs these days are bad with CAD DXF files.
Years ago I tried to convert it all to SVG for creating higher quality plans but each deck plan ended with millions of disconnected lines. A lot of double or more duplicate lines. What I needed are of course are poly-lines but the steps needed to fix it or convert it all added more (invisible) single points... Even the barebone outlines ended up being 5+ megabyte large files. Things haven't improved much since so it will be a while before I can created updated graphical deck plans.

  • Back to the details.
One problem with the Akira that comes up often and is often wrongly interpreted by most fans is the actual volume size of the bridge module, hence, wrong internal arrangement. Here's an animation to visualize it.
    Deck01anim.gif

Of course more volume could be gained by placing Deck 1 lower but then all the other decks would also need to be shifted. That would lead to discrepancies in the deck count as well as to misalignment of the visible windows on the cannon Akira model.

  • Your confusion comes from 3D imagination. Look at the Deck outlines as a guide for the height/volume.
The shuttle (class 6) happens to fit in...

Now to the important sickbays. The images include plenty of structures important for planning but are not all on the same deck, though. Not everything is depicted or visible as they are mirrored so only half is there. All exception are there, though.
