LCARS for Excalibur - A Star Trek Fan Videogame

  • Hey hey everyone!

I'm rather excited to present the first of many functional interfaces for Excalibur. The overall goal is that every screen is fully interactive and rendering live data from the game with the end result providing a player with a living and reactive ingame LCARS system!

First up is the Galaxy Helm.

Using our Primary system colors and trying to stay faithful to what is viewed on screen I think we've found a nice balance between form and function. All the way to the right is quick commands for the basic departments with the ability to swap out the Impulse Control panel to a traditional 4:3 LCARS framing that allows more detailed control over that specific system. We have short range sensors and long range sensors. Warp, basic navigational control and power system.

Impulse Control panel can be swapped for a Warp Drive systems panel. Nice thing is the Navigational Reference panel is the same size so that the Impulse Control and Warp Drive systems panel can be rendered as a horizontal U framing and replace the Navigational Reference panel.

    Hope you all enjoy!

  • Yeah, and the classic functional design is more practical than the Star Trek Bridge Crew game. It's flying or controlling by your thumbs there. It sure is a game not a realistic simulator.

  • Thanks to both of ya!

Agreed Almael. Excalibur is kinda a mix of both. Enough simulation to create the feel but it is still a game. All the LCARS on the hero ship will be fully functional but for other ships they will happen as they happen. The Galaxy helm was just an easy place to start to test out how easily things could be done by taking the original and updating to fit the needed requirements of the game.

My want in the long run is that players could use a secondary touchscreen or a tablet to load up a functioning UI and interact with LCARS the proper way since mouse and keyboard are limiting for interaction points.
