  • no, no ,no - :) sorry, if you got this impression.

as you may know, i'm not a purist in terms of star trek. i'm convinced, that gene roddenberry was aware, that his ideas needed to have creative freedom to get developed in future. and that is excactely , what paramount did with the star trek franchise. they layed the development into the hands of the reponsibles for their TV shows aka movies. see, what happend with the last movies under the responsibility of JJAbrams.

this in mind i think, we have all creative freedom to write the star trek story in our own way. it's fantasy. and i know in my own experience, that puristic fans don't like this.

my attempt with the klingon files is to collect all, what i've found concerning the more or less "official" klingon starships. they have a very interesting story. first, the older ships seen on screen where technologicaly more impressive then the newer ones. but that's the story of star trek. the 23nd century shows TOS came first and the 22nd century show ENT where the last in production. then we saw the alltime favourite bird of preys. but in the overview the klingons used this design for almost 150 years - that's a very long time! and the Bops are still in use! the same happend with the K't'inga-class. it seems really, that the kilngons aren't very creative in shipdesign development and that their starships have a very long lifetime in practical use. my occupation with the klingon shidesign revealed for me as well, that there are three main design concepts - the bird of prey concept, the raptor concept and the D-concept, starting in the 22nd century. beginning of the 23nd century the raptor and the d-concept influenced each other and you find them melted together end of of the 24nd century in the Vor'cha and the Negh'var-class. so far my personal observations.

i'm very interested with the question, what happens in the future. in terms of klingon shipdevelopment this is the 25nd century. they have promising and powerful concepts with the big ships - Vor'cha and Negh'var. but for the middle class and the small-class ships like the bird of preys and the D-class cruisers they would need urgently successing concepts.
i didn't found much promising stuff from ST-fans in the internet. there is a fascinating klingon battleship on the big size ship side and a fanmade future concept of the D-class cruiser, but not really something promising for the bird of preys.

so far from to this theme. i try to do the schematics for the future battleship and the cruiser, but that's a lot of work. hope to present them as soon as possible.

  • well, and here is the first klingon future cruiser concept.
i followed the wonderful model from richard long (REL777) on scifimeshes.com to do this schematic. i think, his project is a great suggestion for a successor of the old K't'inga-class cruisers for the 25nd century. it has the similar shape and style - and also the size - of the K't'ingas, but looks much more elegant and advanced.
the cruisers are typical for patrol and escort tasks. my attempt has total 8 constant contour disruptor turrets and a front disruptor cannon plus 2 torpedo launchers (front and aft). so far my thougths. enjoy the graphic!

  • and one more graphic for the klingon files.
this one took me a lot of time of research and revision. as i metioned before i was looking for a succesor of the klingon bird of prey designs. the b'rel-class variants are all about 200 years old in the 24th century! i found a promising candidate with the Norgh-class scout design of STO. as i started to create the schematics with the poor pics i found i had to revise it several times. now i'm more or less satisfied with the result.
the Norgh-class bird of prey is sligthly bigger then the B'rel-class, but has more or less the same specifications in terms of weaponry and crews. enjoy.
